How to choose a real Christmas tree

Why choose a real tree from Dobbies?

Our fresh cut and pot-grown real Christmas trees are special, as they’re grown specifically with you in mind.

Our suppliers, Needlefresh, grow and care for each individual tree for up to 12 years before they end up in our stores. To create a bushy, uniform shape, specialist pruning techniques are used to emphasise each individual tree’s features.

Needlefresh also keep sustainability at the forefront of everything they do. Impact on wildlife is kept to a minimum with the work done by hand, and all trees are sourced from their environmentally managed farms across Scotland, not cut down from wild forests.

What Christmas tree should you choose?

Whether you’re looking for something with a fresh, festive scent, luscious green colour, or softer needles for a light touch, we have a real Christmas tree perfect for you, no matter your size of space.

Before you make the trip down to Dobbies to pick up your tree, make sure to measure the height, depth, and width of the space you’re planning to put it. We recommend bringing a tape measure to the store to double check the dimensions when you’re here. Don’t worry if your tree is a little bit too big – you can always trim it to fit the space.

Real trees for large spaces

If you have a substantial area for your tree to sit in, our Nordmann Fir Premium Christmas Tree will fill it with festive cheer – in fact, the Nordmann Fir is the most popular Christmas tree in the UK!

Available in sizes up to 7ft tall, its long, luscious needles will make a seasonal statement wherever you decide to display it. The classic conical shape of the Nordmann Fir makes it easy to evenly space baubles, decorations, and lights along its branches.

If you’ve got curious pets or little ones who like to try and sneak a peek under the tree, the Nordmann Fir has softer needles which are safer and much easier to manage.

Real trees for narrow spaces

For those who want the look and feel of a big tree but don’t necessarily have the floor space, choose a slimmer version of the Nordmann Fir. It’s been grown specifically to have a compact, slimmer shape that’s more suited to smaller homes so you can benefit from the stunning impact of a real tree without compromising on room.

Pot-grown Christmas trees

If you’re working with a limited amount of space but still want to make a statement, our pot-grown trees are neat and compact but can still be decorated to create a gorgeous festive centrepiece.

Ideal for those who are in flats or bungalows or want to create a Christmas display on their balcony, front door, or patio, our pot-grown trees are a stunning addition to seasonal décor.

What’s more, after the festive season is over, you can transfer your pot-grown tree outside to the garden to be brought back in again next year, or you can plant it and turn it into a permanent fixture.

Why choose a real Christmas tree?

Bringing a real Christmas tree into the home to decorate for the season is a time-honoured tradition but can also really elevate festivities with its unique scent and colour. A fresh tree smell along with the deep green colours of the needles creates a truly authentic Christmas ambience in your home.

Once you take your tree home make sure you to keep the tree in a cool place and well-watered throughout the Christmas period. Once the festivities are over, you can use your real tree to create a garden space for wildlife to shelter in over winter.

If you have any questions about caring for your real tree or need help deciding which tree is best for your space, then our Green Team members will be in-store and on-hand to help you!
