Create a paper plate parrot

Create a paper plate parrot

Get crafty and learn how to create your own bright, colourful rainforest parrot with just a few simple materials.

Create a paper plate parrot-materials

For this activity you’ll need:

  • 2 paper plates
  • Scissors (ask an adult to help)
  • Paints (red, yellow, blue, black, white)
  • Paintbrush
  • Craft glue or tape
  • A black marker or crayon
  • Colourful ribbons or strips of paper
  • Googly eyes
Cut the paper plates

Step 1: Cut the paper plates

Take one paper plate and cut it in half. These two halves will be used for the wings and head of the parrot.

Step 2: get painting

Now use your paint and paintbrush to colour in your design. Be sure to use all of your favourite colours. Allow the paint to dry.

Paint the pieces

Step 2: Paint the pieces

Paint the full paper plate in bright yellow for the body. Then, paint one half plate red for the wing, and use the other half plate to create the head, painting it mostly red with an area of white.

Let everything dry.

Step 3: Create the face

Once dry, glue a googly eye onto the head. Use a black marker or crayon to draw the beak.

Join the pieces together

Step 4: Join the pieces together

Glue or tape the head to the top of the full yellow plate (body). Attach the wing to the side of the body, then glue or tape the colourful ribbons or paper strips to the bottom as tail feathers.

Step 5: Show it off!

Let your parrot dry completely, then display it on the wall or the fridge for everyone to admire.
