Before getting started, you’ll need:
- Smooth, round pebbles or stones
- Acrylic paint in a variety of colours (red, white, black, yellow, and green)
- Small paintbrush
- White PVA glue
There are so many marvellous minibeasts that you can create, but first, let’s learn how to paint a lovely ladybird:
- Paint your pebble red
- Paint a black line down the centre and a semi-circle on one end of the pebble. This will be your ladybird’s face
- Add some black spots on either side of the black line
- Use black and white paint to add some eyes onto the ladybird’s face
- Once dry, coat your entire pebble with white PVA glue. This will make it waterproof and stop the paint from coming off
Now, let’s have a go at painting a buzzing bee:
- Paint your pebble yellow
- Paint some black stripes across the pebble and a black semi-circle on one end. This will be the bee’s face
- Leave your pebble to dry before moving onto steps 4 and 5
4. Use black and white paint to add some eyes onto the bee’s face
5. Paint some white ovals on top of the bee’s stripes. This will be their wings
6. Once dry, coat your entire pebble with white PVA glue. This will make it waterproof and stop the paint from coming off
Some other pebble creatures you can create include:
- Worm
- Snail
- Spider
- Beetle
Or, why not paint several pebbles green and place them together to create a long caterpillar?
