You'll need:
A large mixing bowl
Handful of fresh mint leaves
240g plain flour
135g salt
2 tbsp cream of tartar
2 tbsp vegetable oil
300g boiling water
Peppermint extract
Green food colouring (optional)
Let's get started
Step 1:
First, harvestsomefreshmintleavesfromyour plant and chop them finely. Make sure you have adult supervision when chopping
Step 2:
Mix the plain flour, salt, cream of tartar, and vegetable oil in a large mixing bowl
Step 3:
Add a few drops of peppermint extract to 300g boiling water. A little goes a long way – you can always add more later if the scent isn't strong enough. You can also add a few drops of green food colouring at this point if you wish
Step 4:
This step should be closely supervised/completed by an adult. Gradually add the boiling water to the dry ingredients in the large mixing bowl. The dough will start to come together. Be careful, the water will be hot!
Step 5:
Stir the mixture well until it is combined
Step 6:
Leave the dough to cool before handling. Once it’s cold enough to touch, place the dough onto a flat surface. If the dough feels sticky, add a little bit more flour, one tablespoon at a time, until it reaches the right consistency
Step 7:
Sprinkle the chopped mint leaves onto your dough and knead for a few minutes until it becomes smooth and stretchy
That’s it! Your mint-scented modelling dough is ready to play with. Have fun creating all sorts of shapes and figures!
