Smelling Guessing Game

Play A Smelling Guessing Game

Breathing is one of the most effective ways to practice mindfulness.
Why not play a guessing game and put our noses to test? Let’s go outdoors, gather some garden objects and have fun

Smelling guessing game materials

For this activity, you’ll need:

  • 5-10 small containers or plant pots
  • Soil
  • Stones/pebbles
  • Bark
  • Pinecones
  • Grass
  • A feather
  • Pine needles
  • Dry leaves
  • Fragrant plants (basil, thyme, lavender etc)
  • Blindfolds (optional)

Once you’ve collected your garden objects, it’s time to start!

  1. Sit in a circle and place all of your garden items in front of you
  2. Pick who gets to guess first, and then get them to either close their eyes or pop on the blindfold
  3. The others should now take it in turns to hold up one of the pots to the nose of the person guessing
Smelling Guessing Game
  1. The person guessing should take two or three deep breaths through their nose, before sharing which object they think is in front of them. Remember, no peeking!
  2. The next person in the circle then takes their turn until everyone has had a chance to play the game. See if you notice anything about the way you feel once you’ve had your turn. Do you feel a bit more relaxed? Did you guess your item correctly? Were there any items that no one could identify?

We hope you had fun guessing the different
smells! Don’t forget to take photos and tag
