To get started you’ll need:
Potatoes
A knife (with grown-up help)
Newspaper or large piece of paper
Craft paints in different colours
Plates or paint palettes
Paper towels or old cloth
Apron or old clothes
Let’s get printing!
Step 1:
Put on your apron or old clothes to keep clean and cover your workspace with old newspaper
or a big piece of paper
Step 2:
Ask a grown-up friend to help you cut the potatoes in half
Step 3:
Use the tip of your knife (with grown-up help) to carve fun shapes into the flat side of the potato halves – you can make hearts, smiley faces, or anything you like!
Step 4:
Squeeze a little bit of each colour of paint onto separate plates or a paint palette
Step 5:
Dip the carved side of the potato into the paint, making sure it's covered but not too drippy
Step 6:
Press the painted side onto the paper. That's your first print!
Step 7:
Stamp the potatoes on the paper in a pattern – like a rainbow or wave
Step 8:
Wipe off the potato with a paper towel or an old cloth before changing colours
Step 9:
Keep stamping until your paper is full of prints
Step 10:
Let your prints dry completely before you show them off to your family and friends!
